Presentation on Precast Hollow Core Slabs by Dr. Frank Buker

Date: November 01, 2022.

Frank Buker, a Ph.D. candidate at Oakland University, gave a presentation on precast hollow core slabs at UBCO on October 31, 2022. Hollow slabs are typically used in Canada as diaphragms to transfer the load to frames in total precast buildings. In his presentation, he explained how hollow core slabs are designed and constructed in New Zealand, the problems these slabs have presented in the past, and how they have mitigated the issues over the years. New Zealand has done more extensive research on precast, and a collaboration with their researchers’ is a step in the right direction.
